Angela Merkel is a German chancellor who has been widely thought as the leader of the European Union. In December2015, Merkel was named as Time magazine’s Person of the Year and it said that she was the “Chancellor of the Free world”. In2016, Merkel has been chosen the most powerful woman in the world for tenth time by Forbes because she has successfullydealt with the economic crisis and made Germany a better country. However, her new challenge was not easy. She had to facerefugee problems that was the hardest one to get through. In late summer, 2015, Merkel opened the door for refugees, a totalof 1 million people in Germany by the end of December. It was not an easy decision which tested Merkel’s ability as the leaderof the European Union, Merkel said “we have read about the wars which happened in Middle East for a long time. We haveseen it on TV and heard about it. Now we have to face that. “However, more and more terrible things happened in Germanybecause of refugees. Some people in Europe are not willing to help them. However, what a 14-year-old refugee said how shefelt about this can make us think more. “I want to study. It’s really painful to watch how other people can enjoy life and youcan’t enjoy it with them.”
