Lots offruit fell from th trees to the ground, so the birds became big andlost their ability to fly. Then polple came to the island. The birdsbecame fresh meat for them. Large numbers of dodo birds werekilled for food. In 1681, around 100 years after people arrived atthe island, the last dodo bird was killed. Since then, no one has everseen a living dodo bird.
