Hangman’s fracture is defined as bilateral fracture in the parsinterarticularis of the axis (C2). It is often seen with people who tryto hang themselves but also occurs in sports or traffic accidents orfalls. The fracture is in most cases lethal. The fracture is caused byan extreme force on the upper vertebrae and especially on the dens ofthe axis. The fracture causes damage to the spinal cord which leads toparalysis of respiratory muscles and most often death
