間歇增強是種不固定比率增強，由於學生知道自己會被獎勵，雖然時間不一定，但會有種期待感，所以能比較穩定持久。就好像賭徒會覺得，一直沒中獎，那接下來該輪到我了，就會一直積極投入。 延宕增強是將獎勵延後發給，但因為不知道延後到何時，所以能增強行為的功效有限。
