       Have you ever been to New York? If so, have you ever visited Times Square? It is one of New York’s best-known landmarks. Times Square is a place that every tourist will definitely visit. It used to be called Longacre Square. In 1904, the publisher of the New York Times moved the newspaper’s headquarter to a building in Longacre Square, so the square was renamed “Times Square.”  
        In 1913, the New York Times moved to an office on Broadway, so it was no longer on the square. Now, the square is known as “One Times Square,” and it is famous for the celebration on New Year’s Eve—Ball Drop. The first ball was dropped at Times Square on December 31, 1907, and several activities were held to celebrate the New Year.  
        In recent years, about one million people usually gather on Times Square for the New Year’s Eve celebration. On December 31, 1999, about two million people crowded there for the millennium celebration. If you want to learn more about how people in New York spend their New Year’s Eve, Times Square is definitely a place worth visiting.
