In the past ten years, the graduation ceremony in Taiwan was held in a creative way. A school principal might dance in front of the students and teachers. Students might dress themselves as a witch or a superman. Such graduation ceremony might not be serious or boring, but sometimes it was held like a school fair.
Some people don’t think it’s a good idea to hold the graduation ceremony in this way. They said the graduation ceremony should be more meaningful. Yes, maybe we should think of what the graduates will get besides their certificates in the ceremony. The graduates of Tsaoling Elementary School serve a cup of tea to their parents to show their thanks. The teachers in Chang Jung Christian University wash the graduates’ feet in the ceremony to tell the graduates the meaning of service. They all try to give the graduates the last lesson during their last day at school.
The graduation ceremony means the end of one stage of a person’s life. Maybe we all forget the graduation ceremony is a time for graduates to show their thanks. Maybe we all forgot it’s also a time for graduates to think about their responsibility they are going to take in the future.
