Consumerpsychology is the study of how people relate to the products andservices that they purchase. Division 23, the Society for ConsumerPsychology (SCP), aims to bring psychological theories into thisapplied research domain. SCP - Division 23 also works to contributeits findings to other areas of psychology. Consumer psychologistsstudy practically all psychological and behavioral responses that canoccur within the context of a person's role as aconsumer. Research carried out by consumer psychologists is designedto describe, predict, explain, and influence consumer responses toproduct and service-related information and experiences. For example,research by SCP may be used to
•provideinformation to companies and consumers on what the public needs orwants
•help an organization (eitherprofit or nonprofit) effectively develop and market products,services, or ideas
•guide the work of governmentagencies that are responsible for product safety, evaluation ofadvertising claims, and assessment of ethical marketing practices
