我國「教育基本法」，於民國88年6月4日經立法院三讀通過，復經總統於同年6月23日公布實施，開啟了我國教育發展及教育行政運作的新境界；「教育基本法」的內容一共有17 條，其中第十條規定：「直轄市及縣(市)政府應設立教育審議委員會，定期召開會議，負責主管教育事務之審議、諮詢、協調及評鑑等事宜。」
