問題詳情

第 41 題至第 45 題為題組Few scientists have had the influence of Sir Isaac Newton, who largely built the edifice of modernscience. 41 He discovered and explained the law of gravity, and proved the theoretical framework throughwhich the observations of Galileo Galilei and the planetary laws of Johannes Kelper could be understood. Hisexperiments with sunlight and glass prisms and mirrors helped him understand the origin of colors and create anew kind of telescope. 42 And he was the first to postulate that the law of physics would be the same allover the universe.Newton’s genius was recognised while he was a young scholar at Cambridge. 43 By the time he diedin 1727, at the ripe old age of 84, he had become a national icon: President of the Royal Society, and warden andmaster of the Royal Mint. 44 As befits a man of such prodigious reputation, Newton left behind a voluminous trove of papers: more than 7million words filling hundreds of notebooks and loose sheets of paper. 45 There are also letters to scientistsand other scholars, pages of derivations of mathematics and physics formulae, and copious writings on alchemyand religion.
