Childhood friendships also help shape (塑造) a person’s character (性格). “A Friend” is such a story which makes us understand how forming (構成) friendships helps in the development (發展) of children.   It was the beginning of the school year, and Heather wanted to make friends with the popular children. Even though they had allowed her to join their group, they did not treat (對待) her well. On the other hand, Christopher, as a new student, was often made fun of by other children. Although Heather did not like this and wanted to talk to him, she did not take action for fear (害怕) of losing those popular friends.   One day, when the class were having pizzas for lunch, one of the popular children was running in the classroom and crashed (碰撞) into Christopher. Christopher’s pizza thus fell on the ground, and the whole class began to laugh at him. But Heather felt so bad and offered (提供) the rest of her pizza to him. When she did this, she felt satisfied and realized what true friendship was like. After the incident (事件), Heather found that she did not care what other people thought of Christopher anymore. He was her friend, and she accepted him even if the others did not.    “A Friend” explains how childhood friendships can facilitate children’s understanding of giving and sharing.
