問題詳情

Terry Fox was a brave Canadian who has changed the world in no small way. Terry lost his right leg at the age of 18 because of bone cancer. While he was in the hospital, he saw many brave children suffering from cancer. Whenever he was in pain, he thought of the brave smiles on the faces of those children. Then, he had the idea of raising money for research into cancer.
Three years later, he got used to running on his wooden leg. Then, he began his “Marathon of Hope.” Sadly, after running for 143 days and a distance of 5,373 kilometers, he felt a different kind of pain. The cancer had spread to his lungs, and he had to stop running. A year later, Terry died at the age of 22.
Although Terry could not run to the end, his spirit has lived on. Every September in Canada, the Terry Fox Run raises millions of dollars for cancer research. Because of it, children with bone cancer are able to live longer now and rarely lose limbs. Thanks to Terry Fox, these children have a chance to lead a happy and healthy life.
