another 為不特定的單數代名詞，未限制範圍，意思為「任何另外一個」。others 為不特定複數，未限制範圍，意思為「任何其他人或物」。the other 為特定範圍的單數。the others 為特定範圍的複數。one…, the other 一個…兩個中的另一個one…, the others 特定範圍中的一個…, 特定範圍中剩餘的全部one…, another…, and the other 表示有三個對象時，「一個…一個…另一個」如果有「四個或以上」不同對象，就是 one…, another…, another…, and the other 如此延續下去some…, others… 為「有些…另一些…」some…, the others有些…其餘的另一些..
