問題詳情

B. (40-42)
Queen Elizabeth II is not like most people. She isboth the head of the Royal Family and the British headof state. A lot of power comes with her title, but it’sless than you think. Her role as Queen of England,Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and a dozen morecountries is for show, so the running of the UK todayis still in the hands of the government.
Even so, the Queen still has some powers. She isthe head of the Church of England, and she can makepeople knights and Lords. Without her signing onthem, no bills in the UK can be passed.
There are some powers that many people don’tunderstand. The Queen also has other powers andfreedoms. For example, she celebrates two birthdays, her real one on April 21 and an official one on aSaturday in June. Then, in the basement ofBuckingham Palace is her very own private cashmachine. She owns all the swans in the River Thames.Besides, she doesn’t need a license to drive or apassport to travel. She also doesn’t have to pay taxesthough she has chosen to do so since1992. At last, theQueen is above the law and cannot be crimed.
