Hello,
I come from the US and I’d like to ask a
question. Should you have to tip waiters at
restaurants in the UK? In the US, tipping at
least 15% is polite and common. If you have to
do so, how much should you tip? Thanks.
James
Hi, James,
I live in London, a big city in the UK. You don’t
always have to tip at restaurants in London. Some
people do, but some don’t.
If you order at your table, a tip of about 10% is
fine. You do so to show your thanks for the good
service. However, if you receive bad service, just don’t
leave any tip. No waiters will run out of the
restaurant after you if you don’t tip.
Besides, you don’t need to tip if you order at the
counter in a restaurant, at fast food restaurants,
cafeterias, or coffee shops. What’s more, some
restaurants already include a service charge in your
bill, so you just don’t tip extra.
