To some people, it might seem crazy to give away most of your wealth. But Ms. Chenthinks it's not that difficult."Everyone can do it. It's not just me. It's not how much money youmake that matters, but how you use your money," she says. "I don't see money as being thatimportant. After all, you can't bring it with you when you start a new life and you can't take itwith you when you leave this life. I feel very happy after donating money... It makes me sohappy that I smile when I go to bed.” How can Ms. Chen save so much money? She is only a vegetarian and eats simple mealsof tofu and rice. She also seldom goes shoppnig. When asked if she has ever bought anythingextravagant for herself, she says she once bought an expensive skirt, but regretted it later. "WhenI wore it to the market, a woman said she had the same skirt and that mine must be a fake. I felt bad and I understood no matter howI dress, it doesn't change the fact that I'm a vegetable vendor."When she was still in elementary school, her mother died because her family had no money for the treatment at a hospital. Inorder to help her family, Ms. Chen stopped studying at school and began working at the family's vegetable stand in the TaitungCentral Market. But that wasn't enough. A few years later, her younger brother died from the flu because the family was alsounable to pay for the treatment in Taipei. Because of these experiences, she decided to help other poor people. Ms. Chen also never forgot the kindness of her brother'steacher and classmates, trying to raise money for him."I feel I owe people a lot. I feel I have to make more money to help others,"she says."I feel very happy after donating money. I feel like I've done something right. It's a feeling that comes from the inside. Itmakes me so happy that I smile when I go to bed. My wish is that I can work till the day I die. Money is only useful if you give it topeople who need it."
