Why do many people in Taiwan start to take out the trash when they hear Beethoven’s “Fur Elise”? That’s right. The garbage trucks are coming. The truck in front collects the garbage, and the one at the back collects recyclable materials.Taiwan has done its best to reduce and recycle trash over the years. According to Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration（EPA）, the amount of trash which is produced by each Taiwanese per day has been reduced from over 1 kilogram to under 0.5 kilogram, a reduction of over 50 percent! The amount of materials that are recycled has increased from 85 tons to 273 tons a year.
 Also, many of the football teams around the world wore Taiwan-made uniforms which were made from recycled plastic bottles. The clothes won the business and also recognition from teams like the United States, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. What’s more, a foreign newspaper ran an almost full-page article on Taiwan’s recycling efforts. So, next time you are hurrying to take out the trash and recyclable materials, give yourself a pat on the back. You are doing Taiwan and the world a favor besides doing yourself one!
